Frequently Asked Questions About Massage

Q: What are the aftereffects of a massage?

A: Some clients may experience slight headache, upset stomach, nausea or the feeling they get with the onset of a cold. This is all normal if you have never recieved a massage. Not all clients will experience these symptoms. There may also be some soreness if concentrated work is done on specific areas and muscles. Such reactions are due to an increase in metabolic waste materials in the circulatory system. These symptoms should be short lived and drinking plenty of water following a massage is always strongly advised to flush the toxins released from your muscles out of your system as quickly as possible and keep them from being reabsorbed.

Q: Can I place limits or restrictions during my massage?

A: Yes! This is strictly a professional body massage. Some may have problem areas to avoid or may be ticklish in certain spots. Always be sure to let your therapist know what areas to avoid.

Q: Do I have to get completely undressed?

A: This is entirely up to the client. It is easier to perform the massage without having clothing in the way. Your therapist had plenty of training in school on how to properly drape a client.

Q: Should I tip my massage therapist?

A: Tipping is customary, a normal tip for a massage ranges from 15%-20% and is based on how well you enjoyed the experience. $10-$30 is the normal tipping range for a massage, but your decision to tip and how much to tip is completely up to you.

Q: How often should I get a massage?

A: There is no exact answer for this. It all depends on the client. Some clients get 2-3 a week, some get 2-3 a month, and some get less than that. Massage is known to improve your overall state of health. Massages help reduce or eliminate pain, relieve stress, help speed up recovery from injury, accidents, or surgery, and increase blood flow and circulation.
